Khar Gymkhana issues showcause to Anandini Thakoor, suspends her membership till March 14
MUMBAI: One can’t live in water and quarrel with crocodiles. But Anandini Thakoor did just that.
A Khar Gymkhana member herself, the managing trustee of Khar Residents’ Association (KRA) told a press conference on February 22 that a showcause notice from the suburban collector, issued on December 7, 2007, had accused the gymkhana of “flouting norms and cheating the government of revenue”.
Singed by the ‘revolt’, gymkhana authorities have debarred her from availing the privileges of a member till March 14,2008.
In a letter dated February 24, the gymkhana authorities issued the crusader a showcause notice. It stated that Thakoor’s February 18 letter, sent to chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, revenue minister Narayan Rane and other government bodies, tarnished the gymkhana’s image. She was told to explain herself in writing, on or before March 14, and appear before the managing committee for her alleged ungentlemanly conduct and anti-management activities.
Thakoor’s Right to Information (RTI) application elicited the suburban collector’s showcause notice, issued on December 7. “I have taken up the issue on behalf of KRA as its managing trustee. It has nothing to do with me being a Khar Gymkhana member,” said Thakoor.
The gymkhana’s notice to Thakoor stated, “Your actions are highly prejudicial to the interest of the Gymkhana...They bring you within the purview of Rule No 24 of the Constitution and Rules of Khar Gymkhana.”
The showcause notice further stated that the vice-president of Khar Gymkhana, Amar Bachani, had taken immediate cognisance of the reckless allegations made by Thakoor with an intent to harm the reputation of the gymkhana in public.
Bachani told DNA, “It’s a showcause notice of suspension for tarnishing the reputation of Khar Gymkhana till March 14. She has to come with a valid reason for damaging the gymkhana’s reputation, and would be meeting the managing committee on March 14.”
