Acting on the Bombay High Court’s directive, the Yerawada police on Thursday registered a case against the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) corporator Sandhya Jadhav-Gaikwad of PCMC area on charges of cheating and producing a fake caste certificate.

The incident came to light when lawyer Padmini Raje Mohite (45), a resident of Agresan Housing Society in Phugewadi lodged a complaint against Sandhya, a resident of Sanjaynagar in Phugewadi and also against unidentified officials who provided her a bogus caste certificate and the official who was deployed in the election process.

All persons are booked under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code, 1860 relevant to declaration making false statement, using as true such declaration knowing it to be false, forgery, using as genuine a forged document, cheating and an act done by them with common intention. No arrests have been made yet.

On Wednesday, the Justice SB Shukre and Justice SC Dharmadhikari of the Bombay High Court directed the Yerawada police to registered the FIR and launch a probe against the candidate who contested civic elections and became a corporator of PCMC in 2012 allegedly with the help of a forged caste certificate.

Kishor Jadhav, inspector incharge of Yerawada police station, said, “In 2012 elections held on February 15, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation ward 62A was reserved for other backward class (OBC). Corporator Sandhya and complainant Padmini contested the election. Padmini was defeated by Sandhya. Later, Padmini obtained information under the Right to Information Act about the documents submitted by Sandhya. Thus the complainant learned that the caste certificate was forged, bogus and fabricated. Sandhya prior to marriage was known as Sandhya Ram Jadhav and later produced fake document and false declaration before the election officer.”

He added, “We are investigating the case. We at present are scrutinising the documents we will arrest the person.”
dna contacted Sandhya’s husband, Surdas who is a former corporator. He said, “The complainant was defeated on two occasions by my family. Once when I was contesting and second by my wife. She is targeting us and falsely implicating us because she has not able to digest the defeat during the election.Due to technical error in the 15 files submitted during elections my wife’s name is reflected in it and this we have already submitted to the high court. We will not appeal as we will give the statement to the police.”
