The wife of a software techie camping at Kamayani Hostel at Hinjewadi IT Park was attacked and robbed to the tune of Rs14,600 by two unidentified men on Wednesday evening.
The Hinjewadi police started looking for the robbers after the victim, Sangita Arun Harkal (36) lodged a complaint under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code, 1860 for robbery and acts done with common intention. No arrests have been made so far.
Inspector (crime) Parshuram Patil of Hinjewadi police station said, “Sangita’s husband works as a software techie with a company based in Hinjewadi. The couple has been provided accommodation at the hostel by the company. Sangita was advised bed rest as recently she had undergone a surgery on her neck. On Wednesday at 5.30 pm, she was alone in the suite and was sleeping after taking her medicines while her husband was at work.”
He added, “The two robbers, who came on a motorbike, knocked on the door of her suite. When Sangita opened the door, they started inquiring about formalities to get accommodation at the hostel and the room charges. On realising she was alone, they pounced on her, gagged her, threatened to kill her, snatched her gold chain, mangalsutra, mobile handset and a bracelet and fled. Now we are trying to collect CCTV camera footages from nearby areas so that we can nab them.”
