For the employees of Information Technology (IT) companies in Pune, the traditional spiritual walk of wari serves as a stress buster.

A group of IT professionals, who have been taking the 20 km long walk from Alandi to Pune with the wari for the last seven years and serving as warkaris, have christened itself as the IT dindi. The members of the IT dindi are gearing up to take the walk again this year.

For Nitin Phatak from Tata Technologies, the waari means forgetting the materialistic life and just being one among lakhs of warkaris.

He says, “I had always wished to participate in waari and three years ago I came to know about the initiative of IT professionals. Now I go with them with all enthusiasm and devotion. Our jobs being highly stress ridden, wari has turned into being a great tension reliever. I find myself completely fresh and recharged after it.”

With above 160 professionals having participated last year, Phatak hopes to see over 250 of them turning up for this year’s Wari.
Moreover, IT professionals from New Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and even from foreign countries like Mauritius will participate this year.

”We keep on talking to our colleagues and friends about it when we go on-site. Many of them want to take the walk and have the experience themselves,” Phatak says.

Prasad Kulkarni, an employee of Syntel, says, ”I enjoy the walk and spiritual upliftment I attain from it.”
“The satisfaction and peace I see among the warkaris is simply mesmerising. “ he adds.
