A 19-year-old student of second year architecture course from Sinhgad Institute, Tejas Sutar, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of his rented accommodation on Sinhgad Road.
According to the police, Tejas took the extreme step unable to bear the study pressure as he had failed in four subjects.
As per the information given by the Bharati Vidyapeeth police, Tejas was not keen to continue with the course and wanted to go back to his hometown in Kolhapur. However, due to pressure from his parents, he had to stay in city for the course.
“Tejas was staying with a roommate, Vidyadhar Tarkhadkar, who was also his classmate,” said police sub inspector RS Kshirsagar.
He said, “Tarkhadkar told us that in the evening when he came back to his room, he saw the deceased’s shoes inside the flat and thought that he must be sleeping in his bedroom. He too went to bed,” he said.
Next morning on Wednesday, Tarkhadkar got up and knocked the bedroom door, however, did not get any response.
“As he was in a hurry to go for classes, he left the house. But when he came back in the evening, he saw the bedroom locked. As he peeped through a gap, he saw Tejas hanging from the ceiling. He soon alerted the neighbours. The police were alerted subsequently,” said Kshirsagar.
He said that his father Sunil, who is a Vastu Expert was informed and after the autopsy report, the body was handed over to his family. He said that no suicide note was found in the room.
“We are going to meet the college authorities and will check whether Tejas was scolded or reprimanded for poor performance,” he said.
The police have registered an accidental death case in this regard.
