Two women's photographs morphed for use on porn websites

Two more women became victims of cyber crime, in which their images were morphed and used for pornographic websites. The women -- a housewife from Koregaon Park and an NRI -- have sought the help of city police’s cyber cell.

In the first case, a 30-year-old housewife and resident of Koregoan Park was shocked to hear from her friend that her images were seen on porn site’s videos. The woman tried to contact the site managers but didn’t get any response, after which she approached the cyber police.

In the second incident a woman, who is a native of Pune but now lives in USA, came to know her picture can be seen on a porn site, where her name has been listed under a foreign name as a local call girl. She could be seen in two videos on the first page of the site where her face was morphed.

She told the cyber police that she identified herself in the picture from the accessories she had worn in it. She had uploaded it on a social networking site. The images might have been taken from there and morphed, she said in her complaint.

Last month dna had highlighted a report in which a city-based actor starring in Marathi and South Indian films, had complained that an escort agency used her picture in a newspaper advertisement leading to embarrassment for her and her family. The police are probing the matter.

Sushma Chavan, inspector in-charge at the Cyber Cell, admitted that such complaints are increasing. “Such sites are being operated from abroad. There are chances that such images are being uploaded from social networking sites and then morphed for obscene pictures. We have noticed that a lot of people are uploading their pictures on social networking sites and blog posts. These pictures automatically get added to the bank of existing photos on search engines. People with ill-intention can randomly download them to use for wrong purpose.”

Cyber expert Niranjan Reddy advised people to be cautious and think before uploading any photo on a social networking site.
