This Pune mandal gives youths a wake-up call

This Ganeshotsav, some mandals are using the festival as a platform to create social awareness on various issues and one such mandal is Veershaiv Lingayat Gawali Samaj of Camp area.
The mandal has opted for a theme based on the 1962 Indo-China war, which completes 50 years this year, to show future threats to India from China. The mandal is also urging youths to join the Indian Army to protect the country from outside threats.

The mandal is staging a play to show that even after 50 years, the threats to India from China have remained the same.
Shailendra Bidkar, president, mandal, said, “We have chosen the theme of 1962 Indo-China war to show what happened 50 years ago. We have used various modes of presentations including a skit and an audio-visual presentation. We have used some clips from old war films on Indo-China war to recreate the atmosphere during the war.”

“As soon as the war clippings end, we show how China is again becoming a threat to India. We are also playing recorded speeches of retired army officers who were a part of the 1962 war. Through the skit, we have tried to show how the young generation is getting into a party culture, and at the end, we are appealing them to join the armed forces to serve the nation,” he added.
