This festive season, 600 get free treatment

The free medical check-up camp on Faraskhana Police station premises has evoked  good response and almost 600 devotees, including children and senior citizens, have benefited from the camp in the last four days of fest. Medicines worth Rs16,000 have been distributed free of cost by the two NGOs running the camp.

Niranjan Sevabhavi Sanstha and Tirupati Nagari Sahakari Patsanstha had started the free medical camp mainly for the police staff who are on round-the-clock bandobast duty during the fest. The camp would be run for all the ten days of the fest between 4 pm and 10 pm in a pandal on the Faraskhana police station campus.

Jayesh Kasat, the founder of Niranjan Charitable Organisation, said, “Around 600 citizens and police employees have been checked in the last four days and because of the hectic schedule and fatigue, pains in the feet are observed among the cops.” He added that devotees who come from far off places also can’t bare the stress due to the over-crowded roads.

He said, “Cold, cough and rise in body temperature is seen in many patients. Multi-vitamins, antibiotics, painkillers and, if required, injections are administered to these patients.” A team of doctors, including Dr Praveen Tambe, Dr Sambhaji Gosavi, Dr Sagar Bihani and Dr Prithviraj Arya are working in the camp. Jugalkishor Pungaliya, founder of Tirupati Co-operative Credit Society, said that he wanted to participate in some social initiative after working in the field of credit supply for the last seven years.

Kasat said that most of the senior police officials, including police chief Gulabrao Pol, have visited the camp. “The camp would be held between 2 pm and 10 pm from Monday and would be run round the clock on Anant Chaturdashi Day (September 29).
