That (loo)phole in NCP's tall promises

Though 90 per cent of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) corporators in the twin town is women, there are only 47 public urinal blocks for them in Pimpri-Chinchwad.

However, these have been constructed before the civic polls 2012, and they stand in a poor condition.

Interestingly, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) unit of the NCP in its manifesto for election had promised to provide enough hygienic public toilets for women. But not a single toilet has been constructed in the twin town.

The manifesto also stated that if need be, help from private institutes and industries will also be taken for constructing toilets for women.

With a female population of 9 lakh of which 30,000 to 40,000 women work in the industrial belt of Bhosari, Chinchwad and surrounding areas, there is a strong demand for public toilets by the citizens.

When dna carried the ‘Know Your Corporators’ series last year, almost all women corporators in their agenda stated that priority will be given to construct public toilets in the twin town.

Vrushali More, woman workers of Bhosari MIDC said that the women workers face tremendous difficulties due to lack of the much-needed public facility.
