Techie arrested for raping maid in Pune

The Sangvi police on Wednesday arrested a 32-year-old married software engineer for allegedly raping his maid after threatening to kill her.

The arrested suspect has been identified as Prashantkumar Rajaram Yadav, a native of Uttar Pradesh, who resides at Sai Prem Park Society in Pimple Saudagar. He works with a reputed IT company in Hinjewadi. The 35-year-old victim, a widow, lives alone and worked for six months at Yadav’s place.

According to the police, in April Yadav’s wife had gone to her mother’s house. “On April 26, when she came for work, Yadav started touching her inappropriately. When she resisted, he allegedly raped her. After that she stopped going for work at his house. On April 29, Yadav went to her house around midnight and again raped her and threatened to kill her if she disclosed about the incident to anyone,” said senior police inspector Saifan Mujawar, in-charge of Sangvi police station.

Police said that the victim left for her village and returned after several days. She started work at other flats in Sai Prem Park Society. However, Yadav, who was also the secretary of the society, made her employers to fire her from job. As she was left with no means of livelihood, she approached a women’s rights organisation, which helped her lodge a complaint against the suspect. Police sub-inspector Manohar Sonawane is investigating the case.
