Teacher slapped by student: CCTVs to guard Rayat’s colleges across state

The recent incident of assault on a teacher by a student in one of its colleges has prompted the Rayat Shikshan Sanstha, a leading educational institution in Asia, to install CCTV cameras in its colleges across the state.

The sanstha has already installed CCTV cameras in 17 of its 41 colleges it runs across the state and the remaining colleges will be guarded with CCTV cameras soon.

The project to install CCTV cameras on campus was undertaken few months back. However, a recent incident of  student slapping a female teacher prompted the authorities to expedite it. The sanstha also aims to curb nuisance of eve teasing on campus by monitoring the campuses through the surveillance.

The control rooms to monitor the footage grabbed by the CCTVs will be developed in the principals’ cabins.

Sanstha’s secretary and principal Arvind Burungale said, “Rayat has always taken pride in its tradition of producing well disciplined students. The decision of installing CCTV cameras on campus is a step taken in this direction. In the first phase, CCTV cameras will be installed in the senior colleges run by the sanstha.”

Founded by Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil, the sanstha has 674 branches across the state. It has a total of 4.5 lakh students and manpower of 18,000 staffers. Besides, the sanstha also runs 436 high schools across the state.
