It is causing inconvenience in terms of delaying admissions to other courses and affecting their careers.

According to University Grant Commission (UGC) guidelines, a university has to declare the results of any exam within a maximum period of 45 days. Other state universities have already declared the results and started the admission procedures. Students graduating this year and opting for higher studies will find it tough to secure admissions in colleges of their choice.

Due to the senior college teachers’ strike led by Maharashtra Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organisations (MFUCTO), including Pune University College Teacher Organisation (PUCTO), which started from April 1 and continued for over 55 days, the whole process of declaring the results got delayed.

Vice-chancellor of UoP, Wasudev Gade, assuring that the BCom results will be declared on Monday, July 9, said, “In spite of the 55 days strike and the test papers lying unchecked at the exam centre, we mobilised teachers as soon as the strike got over to get the work done. In fact, UoP is much ahead in declaring the results compared to other state universities. The teachers strike caused the delay, but we have still tried hard to declare the results on time.”

Second year BCom student, Parakh Ajmera, said, “It is true that the strike happened at a time when the answer sheets were to be evaluated but it lasted just for over 6 weeks. Today, already three months have passed but students are still waiting for their results. The process of admission for third-year BCom has not even started and it is going to be all the more delayed.”

Third year student, Sourabh Jain, said that he had plans to take admission in a university based out of the state for LLB course. “With the results delayed, I have no chance of getting admission in a reputed college and even if I get it, I will not be able to avail the hostel facility as the rooms will be full by then. The delay has obviously affected our careers.”

A senior lecturer at one of the city’s reputed college, Bahausaheb Ghodke, said, “The strike brought the education system to a standstill. With the delay in results, the third year BCom students have become confused over admissions to further courses.”

Principal of Marathwada Mitra Mandal’s College of Commerce, MD Lawrence, said that since the results will be out on July 9, it will take another three days to start the third year BCom classes. He said that the commerce stream exams were over on April 4 and they were getting many calls from students inquiring about when the results will be declared and when the classes will start.
