Dishant Zarkar, a standard X student of Millennium High School, Karvenagar, died, allegedly due to cardiac arrest, on the school premises on Wednesday morning. The staff and students of the school are in a state of shock. The school has declared Friday as no school day in his memory.
Dishant had no medical history, said school principal Arpita Karkare, adding that the victim was a student of the school since kindergarten.
“Dishant was good in newsletter writing, elocution and sports, he never missed school for health reasons. The incident happened around 10.30 am after the physical activity period. Students were coming back to their classes when Dishant collapsed and didn’t respond to first aid. We rushed him to Shashwat Hospital where he was declared brought dead,” she said, adding that the deceased’s younger brother is a standard III student of the school.
Shashwat Hospital director Dr PS Karmarkar said, “We tried reviving him by giving direct current (DC) shock and cardiac massage.” The body has been sent for post-mortem at Sassoon Hospital as the cause of death is unclear.
