Std VII girls stalked in Pune; use presence of mind to save the day
Pune: A little bit of presence of mind and courage can help you protect yourself. This was affirmed by two intelligent Pune girls who found themselves stalked by a group of four boys at a popular mall in the city. Instead of panicking and raising an alarm, the two showed immense intelligence as they averted an uncomfortable situation and saved themselves from any untoward incidents.
On Thursday, after their annual examination got over, two seventh standard girls studying in an Aundh-based school planned to go for a movie. It was there that a group of four boys started stalking them. Instead of getting scared, the girls informed their mothers and took help of police to register a case against the four boys. After the boys issued an unconditional apology and a personal bond, they took back their case.
Recalling the incident, the 12-year -old girl, a resident of Wakad said, “It was our Hindi last paper and after our exams got over, we had plan to celebrate. We had planned to watch the 3pm show but we got tickets for the one at 4 pm. I noticed a group of four boys was following us right from across the road. We both decided to check if they were stalking us. Accordingly, we went to fourth floor of the mall, they followed us. We went to the ladies toilet. For 15 minutes we were inside assuming that they will go but when we came out, they were present there. In the loo, we asked many girls to help us but in vain.”
Speaking to dna, the girls’ mother complained that when she reached movie theatre, she was not let inside the screen to help her daughters. “I even requested the authorities to provide me CCTV camera footage, but they refused. Around 7 pm, the girls and I were waiting near the screens when two of fours boys came out and pretended to speak on phone. The moment my daughters pointed out, I forced my way and dragged them out.”
Subhash Nikam inspector (crime) of Chaturshrungi police station said, “All four boys were detained and pleaded with the family not to register the case. On Friday, victim’s family took the case back. But we have taken preventive action against them and have also taken undertaking from them claiming that they will not do so in future.”
