The long-pending demand of public toilets, especially for women, will soon be answered, as the twin town is set to get public toilets at six public places spread over the Pimpri-Chinchwad area.
In an initiative, the Rotary Club of Pimpri-Chinchwad will soon develop public toilets on ‘pay-and-use’ basis in cooperation with the civic body. Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) administration has tabled the proposal in this regard in the standing committee meeting to be held on Tuesday.
As per the civic administration proposal, PCMC will provide the space to Rotary Club on minimal rent of Re1 per month for 30 years with advertising rights. According to the civic officials, PCMC has identified six places which include Pimpri Chowk, Phugewadi Octroi Post on Mumbai-Pune highway, KSB chowk, Bird Valley, Sai Chowk at Navi Sangvi and below the Bhosari flyover.
The public toilets will be built on nearly 500 sq ft area at the six locations. The estimated cost of these six toilet blocks will be around Rs45 lakh which will be funded by six Rotary clubs in the city and the International Club Fund.
