Sassoon patients’ kin to get Dagdusheth trust’s shelter

Taking up the task of serving the needy seriously, trustees of Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Trust have decided to start a new project to provide free shelter to the relatives of patients admitted to Sassoon General Hospital. Also, free meal will be provided to nearly 1,000 admitted patients.

Members of the trust said that by February 2013, a shelter for relatives of patients would be built on nearly 5,000 sq ft land given by hospital authorities.
“The total project would cost us nearly Rs3 crore. We have 2-3 objectives in mind; the first being to build a shelter for relatives of patients. Most relatives can’t afford accommodation in the city; others may not wish to leave the patient and go elsewhere. So they end up sleeping in corridors and eat wherever they can. That’s why we thought of a shelter to house them,” said Mahesh Suryawanshi, treasurer of the trust.

The proposed shelter would accommodate up to 100 people and is likely to be inaugurated in February marking the death anniversary of Tatya Godse, former president of the trust.

Besides, the trust has decided to provide free meals twice a day as per hospital’s dietitian advice to nearly 1,000 admitted patients.
