Pune: Toddler kidnapped, raped and strangled to death

A two-and-half-year-old girl, who was sleeping next to her mother, a daily wage labourer, was kidnapped and murdered on Saturday night. Her body was found by the police on Sunday, who said that she had also been raped before she was strangled to death. 

The incident took place near Dhayari area on Sinhgad road. The victim's body was found few few meters away from her residence behind Prayeja city area. Both the parents of the girl work as a daily labourers at nearby construction site. Police are yet to trace the culprit.
 
"The girl was sleeping next to her mother at their residence from where she was kidnapped on Saturday night. Her mother woke up at around 11.30 pm and found that her daughter was missing," Assistant Commissioner of police (Swargate Division) Shivaji Pawar told DNA.
 
Her parents along with some neighbours searched for the girl in nearby locality but they could not found her anywhere after which they approached the police and a complaint of kidnapping was registered against an unidentified person. 
 
On Sunday morning, a passer-by spotted her body in the bushes and he informed the police. Her body was sent for post-mortem.
 
"Though we are yet to receive the final medical report, the post-mortem has confirmed that the girl was raped before she was strangled to death," Pawar said. 
 
Sinhgad road police has formed several teams to nab the culprit but no one has been detained so far.
