General body of PMC gave a nod to the civic administration’s proposal for the special police station which will be set up at the main building of PMC and it will register all the cases regarding illegal structures and encroachments. There was a long pending requirement of the special police station to speed up the investigation and carry out action in a planned manner. Madhav Jagtap, head of anti-encroachment department of PMC said, “Earlier, when we had to carry out any action against illegal structure, we had to inform the local police station in advance and had to wait till the arrangements done. Apart from that, while registering criminal cases against persons involved in illegal constructions, we had to file cases in those respective police stations and later, had to take follow up with all such police stations. Now, with the help of this special police station, there will be one point of contact for us.”“The police station which will be set up in the main building of PMC, will have a staff of 130 cops including an officer of assistant commissioner of police rank. The anti encroachment department now, can file all the cases with the special police station and this dedicated police station will investigate the matter. Even while carrying out demolition drive, we will get protection from this police station only, which will make entire process much faster,” Jagtap added. After general body gave approval for setting up the police station, the proposal now will be sent to the state government for the final approval.
