“My child was killed in a most gruesome manner. His killers must be hanged publically. If the law does not allow it, change it, but give justice to my son,” cried out Sunita, mother of 16-year-old Shubham Shirke, who was kidnapped and murdered by his three persons in Dighi on Sunday.

Speaking to the reporters at their residence in Adarshanagar area of Dighi on Monday, Shubham’s parents also demanded that the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000, to deal with under-aged criminals should be amended.

Sunita said, “The killers must be hanged in a chowk. The laws should be amended to facilitate it so that such incidents would not occur in the future. It was a cold-blooded murder. The killers hatched a plan and gruesomely murdered my son. It doesn’t matter that they are minors.”

Shubam’s parents were happy that the Vishrantwadi police picked up the suspects within 24 hours. Sunita said, “After getting the information, the police quickly swung into action and nabbed all the suspects. The police have done their job. We are happy with police investigations. Now they should help us get justice.”

Sunita recalled that Shubam was interested in computers and wanted to become a software engineer. “My son was brilliant in computer skills. His friends used to take his help in solving computer-related problems. On Saturday, one of the killers called up Shubam. My son helped him in uploading a software in his computer. Then they came to our house and took him away in a car.”

The Shirke family is apprehensive that there would be political pressure to hush up the case. Sunita said, “There are chances of political interference. We want Ujwal Nikam to plead the case in the court so that the culprits are punished.”
