Pune sees rise in tourists in festive times

As the much awaited Ganesh festival begins on Wednesday, many people from other parts of the country are arriving in Pune to experience the excitement. Travel companies says the number of tourists visiting the city has gone up by about 15%.
Talking to DNA, Neelu Singh, COO, Ezeego1.com, said, “With Indians gearing up to worship Lord Ganesh, we are witnessing a good number of tourist convergences not only in Mumbai but in Pune as well. Puneites celebrate this festival in a grand manner every year. We have seen an increase of 15 % in train and bus bookings to Pune from different parts of India during this period.”
The inflow is mostly from north and south rather than east. Singh said, “A lot of visitors coming from north and south India combine their Mumbai and Pune visit for this grand festival due to close proximity of both the cities.”
An employee of Samadhan Lodge on Laxmi Road, Viresh Kadkule, said “It is not that the entire lodge is booked, because we have to reserve the second floor for the police who want to control the crowds. The rooms which face the road are completely booked.” Vikas Passi, general manager of Royal Orchid Central, Pune said this is one of the biggest festivals of the state and more and more people are visiting the city.
“We have registered 80% bookings which is about 15% higher. We are expecting this will continue as many festivals coming up.’’
