Prisoner in Nashik was being brought back from hospital when he got away.
A prisoner serving a life sentence in Nashik central jail, escaped from the custody of the Nashik police on Wednesday, September 12.
Satish Mahipal Valmiki, 35, a resident of BDD chawl, Dadar, Mumbai and gangster, who was serving a life sentence for a murder that took place in Kandivali, Mumbai in 2009, was sent to Nashik jail on May 23, 2010.
A few days ago, he reported being sick and was admitted to Nashik district civil hospital. He was discharged after recovery.
While being brought back from the hospital to the jail in a police van, the prisoner broke open the emergency exit of the van and jumped out in the Wadala road area of Nashik. He climbed onto a two-wheeler riding behind the van and escaped.
The incident took place despite a security of 11 policemen and 15 other prisoners in the van. People riding their vehicles on the road told the police that the prisoner had fled on a two-wheeler. Police are on the lookout for the convict.
6 cops injured in attack
Six policemen from Nashik rural police were injured, when they were attacked while returning from duty in Harsul in Nashik district on Wednesday.
Police sources said, a team of policemen from Trimbakeshwar had gone to a hamlet Khairale Pali near Harsul village to issue a court warrant in a case involving the custody of children in a conflict between husband and wife. The custody of the children, a seven-year-old daughter and a four-year-old son, was reportedly asked to be given to the mother.
While the police were returning after issuing the warrant, their vehicle was stoned by a mob and the policemen were attacked with sticks. Six policemen including an assistant police inspector (API) were injured. They were taken to Nashik civil hospital.
A case has been filed against Bhagwan Subar, Motiram Subar and Madhav Subar in the matter.
Deputy collector, clerk arrested in graft case
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Pune, arrested the deputy collector and a clerk while accepting a bribe of Rs2 lakh at Pune Zilla Parishad (ZP) office on Wednesday night. The suspects have been identified as deputy collector Dr Kiran Mahajan and clerk Rajesh Randive.
According to the sources in ACB, Mahajan was demanding money for clearing a 10-acre plot as per the new tenancy rules of the state government. A complaint in this regard was lodged by Sanjeev Gawade of Khand village, Mulshi Tehsil.
While speaking to DNA, deputy commissioner of police (ACB) Sarang Awad, said, “Gawade wanted to buy a 10-acre plot in Khand village. Mahajan, who was also in-charge of tenancy matters, demanded money from Gawade to clear the land as per the new tenancy rules of the state government.”
The ACB team led by Awad, deputy superintendent of police Rajendra Galande and inspector Ashwini Satpute laid a trap at old ZP office. Awad added, “After Mahajan confirmed his demand, we asked Gawade to give him the money. Mahajan had asked his clerk to collect the money. We first arrested the clerk who then led us to Mahajan.”
