Additional sessions judge S T Dhavale on Thursday framed charges against lawyer Laxman Shravan Ghadge-Patil, the former president of Pune Bar Association (PBA), for allegedly plotting the murder of an 18-year-old student who was in alleged relationship with his daughter in 2007.

Judge Dhavale charged Ghadge-Patil (54) under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

The Paud police had found the body of Jeevan Verma alias Indrajit Verma, a resident of Gokhalenagar, in a ditch in Gonwadi village near Mulshi dam on July 4, 2007. Verma’s mother Anuradha had lodged a missing person’s complaint with Chatuhshrungi police station on July 3. The police had sent the body for an autopsy to the Sassoon General Hospital and the hospital authorities, claiming that it was a case of ‘unclaimed body’, disposed it of on July 6.

Verma’s identity was established a week later when his friends found his motorcycle about 20 km away from the spot, where his body was recovered. His parents approached the police and identified his belongings.

The case was later handed over to the local crime branch of Pune rural police which claimed that Ghadge-Patil had conspired to get Verma killed because of his closeness to Ghadge-Patil’s 16-year-old daughter.

A chargesheet was filed against Ghadge-Patil, Sagar Dattu Yenpure (22), Chandrashekar alias Umesh Dnyandeo Satpute (23), Navnath alias Nava Khanaiyalal Bhoomkar (23), Sachin Kundalik Bichkar (21), Mahesh Suresh Randive (21) and Pankaj Ramesh Pawar (19). It also named Ghadge-Patil’s daughter as absconding.
