The ministry of external affairs has decided to launch the online payment scheme for booking online passport appointments from Friday.
The ministry had earlier introduced a scheme of booking online appointments and later it also increased the slots so that more number of applicants get an appointment.
In a press release, the ministry stated that many applicants were not turning up on the appointment day and opportunity of other applicants was being denied. Therefore, to overcome the problem, the ministry is launching online payment system.
Under the new process, the payment is to be made while booking an appointment. The appointment can be made on www.passportindia.gov.in and the applicants can pay by credit or debit card or through Internet banking of State Bank of India (SBI). The applicants who want to avail of challan option can deposit the money in SBI branch after generating the challan. Once the confirmation receipt of payment is generated by SBI, the earliest appointment will be automatically generated through computerised system.
