PUNE
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has sanctioned Rs 2 crore for Pune city traffic police department to buy new equipment needed by them to take action against traffic rule violators.
The money is meant for procurement of tintometers, four wheelers meant for traffic policing, speed guns and breath analysers. Proposals to procure the equipment were pending for a long time.
On February 5, 2013, Vishwas Pandhare, deputy commissioner of Police (Traffic) had met Ajit Pawar and submitted the list of equipment to be procured, which was pending due to paucity of funds.
Pandhare said, “An amount of Rs 2 crore was sanctioned at the District Planning and Development Committee meeting held on Monday. We will now start the procurement procedure.”
In 2012, traffic department had received five tintometers from Shri Dagdusheth Halwai trust. However, five tintometers among 35 traffic branches were inadequate with the rising number of offence, hence, the city traffic police have demanded 30 more tintometers from the state government.
With 30 more breathe analysers, the city traffic police department will have total of 76 breath analysers in the city. This means that each traffic branch will have two breath analyser to keep a tab on the number of drink and drive cases.
City traffic police department also got four traffic mobile car, 100 walkie-talkies, 500 barricades, 5 speed guns, 1200 reflective metal road stand.
