Over 3,000 determined CoEPians created a record of sorts on Sunday by attempting to solve the Rubik’s Cube in minimum time in order to enter the Guinness Book of World Records.

A total of 3,267 enthusiasts participated in the historic initiative titled, ‘Akshat’, to accomplish the sequence completion of Rubik’s Cube in 10 minutes to seek entry into the Guinness Book of World Records.

The principal of College of Engineering, Pune, (CoEP), Anil Sahsrabuddhe, said, “The college was expecting nearly 2,500 enthusiasts to take up this challenge, but it crossed the 3,000 mark this morning.”

Bhushan Deshmukh, coordinator, Akshat, said that the final counting went on till late in the evening and the number of participants had reached 3,267.

Deshmukh said, “The initiative was aimed at beating the existing record by a huge margin with regards to number of participants and the time span in solving the Rubik’s Cube.”

The present world record is held by 937 students of Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IIT-B).

The college ground was brimming with enthusiasts as a team of volunteers comprising former students and students from other colleges reached the campus as early as 7 am to manage the event. A total of 150 volunteers were part of the organising committee.

The entire event was recorded with the help of 15 cameras and the  complete audio-visual recording would be sent to the office of the Guinness Book.

The event saw a wide range of participants from seven-year-old Yash Kavishwar to alumni in their late 60s, said Deshmukh. A team from Limca Book of World Records was also present to oversee the attempt.
