The subject has not been included in the vocational list of CAP
Students who opted for Information Technology (IT) courses for standard XI and XII will not be able to gain admission in engineering courses as it has not been included in the engineering vocational list.
This has resulted in hundreds of students losing their chance to gain admission for engineering courses.
Directorate of vocational education JD Patange said, “The IT subject which is offered by Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has to be selected in lieu of Biology or any language except English for junior college.”
Patange added, “This course is a regular course of the board but it has not been given as an option for the engineering vocational options. The subject is for 100 marks.”
This year Directorate of Technical Education has issued a notification which states that the students who have passed standard XII examinations with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry/Bio-technology/Biology/Technical Vocational subjects can take part in this year’s Centralised Admission Process (CAP). However, IT has not been included in the vocational subject list.
A member from engineering CAP said, “This subject has been included in All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) vocational subject, but it has not been included in the CAP.”
“The curriculum for this subject has been framed on the lines of National Curriculum Framework (NCF) and has different curriculum for all three streams Arts, Commerce and Science,” said Patange. Students are demanding to include IT in the vocational list like Chemistry has been made an optional subject.
Hundreds of students to miss engg bus
Despite many last minute grumbles of not receiving non-creamy certificates to get admission in engineering courses, the district administration is claiming that it cleared hundreds of applications on June 17 and 18.
The last day to submit the application form for the engineering courses through the Centralised Admission process (CAP) was Tuesday.
Despite clearing nearly 20,000 applications in a span of 20 days, hundreds of students did not receive their certificates and thus missed the chance to get admission in engineering colleges.
The students were required to attach non-creamy certificate along with the application form to get concessions in fee for various categories.
Sandesh Tidke, a student said, “I had applied for the certificate on May 31 and was told to collect it on June 13. However, today I was told that my papers have been misplaced.”
Some students demanded an extension of the submission date to apply again as their papers got misplaced in the process.
Aruna Bhondve, mother of Rachana, an aspiring Engineering student, said, “My daughter’s papers have been misplaced by the officers. They are telling us to get the original certificates from our native place. I can only go if they extend the submission date.” Sub-divisional officer (SDO) Avinash Hadgal said that they have worked till 11 pm to clear the forms. “We have opened two new cells to speed up the work. Over 300 people are working on the process,” he said.
