Opportunity to watch Vijayabai Mehta in 'Hamidabaichi Kothi'

Theatre enthusiasts would have an opportunity to watch the performance of Vijayabai Mehta as Hamidabai in `Hamidabaichi Kothi’ on July 6. Maharashtra Sahitya Parishad (MSP) and Bharati Vidyapeeth have organised a public interview of legendary theater personality along with screening the telefilm of the pathbreaking play.

While addressing a press conference, MSP working president Madhavi Vaidya said, “MSP president PC Shejwalkar would felicitate Mehta with Laxmibai Tilak Memorial Award and Mehta’s disciple noted director Pratima Kulkarni would interview her. The interview would be focused on the play `Hamidabaichi Kothi’ and Mehta would narrate the journey of the play till the presentation, starting from the time the author penned the story.”

Vaidya said that with the help of Virendra Chitrav of Ashay Film Club, the telefilm would be screened after the public interview. Chitrav informed that the telefilm was shot when noted actress Neena Kulkarni was introduced to Marathi theater through this play. Versatile actor Ashok Saraf plays a part in this telefilm.
General secretary of MSP Prakash Paigude and treasurer Sunil Mahajan informed that this program is part of the literature and theater convention for the youth which is organised every year by the MSP. Chitrav informed that an exhibition of photographs of Vijaya Mehta during her theatrical journey would be organised on July 6 besides screening.

400 photographs taken during the 11 plays, films and workshops conducted by Vijayabai Mehta.
