As the refectory run by the University of Pune (UoP) does not allow students who take tiffins from the local ‘dabbawalas’ to eat in the premises, citing space crunch, several students are forced to sit in the open space in front of the refectory to have lunch.

According to the students, it becomes difficult for them to have their food during the rainy season and many a time, they even go hungry.

However, following several requests from students, the varsity has finally decided to make arrangements for the students.
Chief engineer of the estate department of UoP, RV Patil said that considering the inconvenience of these students, they have decided to purchase 80 dining tables which will be placed on the terrace of the refectory.

“We have already erected a shed on the terrace and so far some dining tables have been purchased,” said Patil.

“I take tiffin from private ‘dabbawalas’. Hence I have to sit on the open place near the Jaykar library for the lunch. It becomes difficult for us during the rainy reason or summer,” said a student.
