Even as police officers were patting their backs on Thursday for cracking 20 chain snatching cases, it was literally a chain snatching day for miscreants. The city witnessed six incidents on the Valentine’s Day. The chain snatchers made away with a total booty of Rs 2.85 lakh.In one of the incidents that happened in Budhwar Peth on Thursday, a miscreant attacked the victim with a blade and fled with her gold chain worth Rs 25,000. The victim Namrata Sonare (28) lodged a complaint with the Faraskhana police.“Sonare was speaking on the phone when two unidentified persons came close to her. They tried to snatch her gold chain. When she tried to prevent them, they attacked her with a blade,” said police sub inspector Girish Sonawne of Faraskhana police station.

Five other incidents of chain snatching were reported in the city on Friday.

A 46-year-old woman Meena Salunkhe told the Vishrantwadi police that two unidentified bikers snatched her gold chain worth Rs 55,000.Ratnaprabha Joshi (67) complained with the Sahakarnagar police against two persons on a bike who snatched her gold chain worth Rs 70,000. Similarly, 65-year old Asha Yamankamdi in Warje lost her gold chain worth Rs 60,000 to snatchers. At Kothrud police station Sunanda Patil (61), a resident of Erandwane lodged a complaint of chain snatching. The incident took place when she was walking back home and the thieves allegedly snatched her gold chain worth Rs 25,000.Gajanan Ankushe (28) lodged a complaint with the MIDC police against two unidentified persons on the bike who allegedly snatched his gold chain worth Rs 48,000.
