The Pimpri-Chinchwad New Town Development Authority (PCNTDA) and Maharashtra Housing & Area Development (Mhada) plan to do new housing projects in the twin town jointly.

A proposal to this effect was approved in principle at the PCNTDA monthly meeting held recently. The PCNTDA is showing willingness to hand over eight plots, totally admeasuring six acres to Mhada for constructing houses. PCNTDA president Prabhakar Deshmukh, vice president Vikas Deshmukh and chief executive officer Dr Yogesh Mhase were present for the meeting.

According to a PCNTDA spokesperson, “The PCNTDA decided to go for a joint venture with Mhada for a housing project because the former gets only 1 floor space index (FSI) for its own projects, while Mhada gets 2.5 FSI for its projects. The extra FSI for MHADA projects will mean construction of more houses on the same land if the PCNTDA joins hands with Mhada for these projects.”

Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, during his recent visit to Pimpri-Chinchwad, had stated that the government was planning to build social infrastructure around all developed industrial areas as the cities needed better facilities and planned development.

Chavan had stated that the government planned to have integrated industrial areas, where land around existing developed industrial areas will be acquired to build low-cost housing and other facilities required by citizens.

Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar had also hinted about a low-cost housing scheme to be jointly implemented by Mhada and PCNTDA during his visit to the twin township recently.
