2 other D Y Patil Medical College students hurt
Two youths including a medical student were killed and two other medical students critically injured in a car accident near Nigdi octroi post on old Pune-Mumbai highway in the wee hours of Sunday. According to sources, the car rammed into a stationary container on roadside around 3.15 am.
The deceased were identified as Suraj Surendra Chhabra (24), a resident of Ajmera Colony in Pimpri, and Tanvi Sunil Mhatre(24), a resident of Wagholi in Alibaug taluka of Raigad district.
The injured are Karishma Selvedia (24), a resident of Mumbai, and Rashmi Tripathi ( 22), a resident of Surat in Gujarat. Both are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Nigdi.
According to Dehu Road police, Tanvi, Karishma and Rashmi, third year students of Dr. D.Y. Patill Medical college in Pimpri, had gone out of the city for some work. Suraj Chhabra who ran a travel and tourist business in Pimpri knew the three, as they were staying in the same locality.
They were returning back to Pimpri on Sunday morning when the accident took place. Suraj was driving the car when it rammed into the container that was parked on roadside. All the four car passengers were critically injured in the accident. They were rushed to the Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital (YCMH) in Pimpri. Suraj was declared dead on arrival. The three injured students were rushed to a private hospital in Nigdi where Tanvi died while undergoing treatment.
