Man robbed of Rs26 lakh after throwing chilli powder in his eyes

A 40-year-old man carrying Rs26.95 lakh in a bag and riding a two-wheeler was looted by four unidentified suspects on two motorbikes by throwing chilli powder into his eyes. The incident took place near Shramik Bhavan on Monday afternoon.

The victim, Sanjay Ambadas More of Azadnagar near SRPF in Wanavdi, has lodged a complaint with the Shivajinagar police station against the four unidentified men. He told the police that one of the suspects was tall, had his face covered and was wearing a white and pink shirt.

Shivajinagar police station incharge and senior inspector Pandarinath Patil said, “More has been working as a cash executive with Hadapsar-based Radiant Cash Management Pvt Ltd for 11 months. He daily collects cash from Quward Brother based in MarketYard and Quward and Sons in Ganesh Peth and deposits the money at ING Vysya Bank’s branch on Fergusson College Road.”

Patil said, “The company says that it has directed its cash executives to travel by autorickshaw if the cash on them is more than Rs20 lakh. More had collected Rs5.65 lakh from Ganesh Peth office after collecting Rs21.30 lakh from Market Yard around 12.30 pm on Monday.”

“All the time, More travelled on his motorbike. He proceeded via Nana Peth, KEM Hospital, Junna Bazar, and Degale Bridge.  The suspects intercepted him when he reached near Shramik Bhavan near PMC. They snatched the bag containing the cash after throwing chilli powder into his eyes and fled towards PMC.”
