Cops arrest 3 who also tried to exort money
The Nigdi police arrested three men for allegedly abducting a person and trying to extort Rs10 lakh from him on Saturday night in Nigdi’s Puranagar area. The victim Ashok Kharat himself lodged a complaint with the Nigdi police later.
The accused have been identified as Swapnil Nayar, Peter Sebastian and Govind, all residents of Nigdi. According to the police, Kharat recently sold his land located on Dehu Road. The abductors knew about this and hatched a plan to exact money from him.
Police sub-inspector BR Pawar of Nigdi police station said, “On Saturday night, the kidnappers, along with one of Kharat’s friends, went to his house. They told him that they want to discuss something with him and took him out. They then pushed him in their car at gunpoint and took him to Spine Road, about two kilometres away from his residence. The kidnappers demanded Rs10 lakh from Kharat. Kharat pushed the person holding him and managed to run away. He came home but did not go to the police as he was too scared. He lodged a complaint on Sunday morning. We then traced the three accused and arrested them from Nigdi.”
According to the police records, Nayar and Sebastian are history sheeters and were arrested in serious offences in the past.
