Collector seeks report in a month; girl still missing.
District collector Vikas Deshmukh on Monday has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the Thursday accident near Katraj tunnel in which a woman and her 18-month-old daughter were swept away in a car during rains.
While fire brigade officials and relatives found the body of the woman, the girl remains missing. The collector has ordered filing criminal cases against those responsible for the incident and submit the report within a month.
After a landslide near Katraj tunnel due to heavy rains, waterlogging was reported at Shindewadi toll plaza and waves rising up to 2-3 metres hit the road near Katraj tunnel causing the incident.
Inadequate drainage system, unauthorised construction on hilltops and building illegal roads to connect it with the national highway had resulted in this incident. The collector has directed officials to take action under National Highways Act (1956). He said that those responsible for unauthorised construction will be taken to task under Town Planning Act.
