Citizens will be fined by two per cent if they miss June 30 deadline
From July 1, the Pune Municipal Corporation(PMC) will start charging fine from the property owners who have failed to pay property tax in time. To enable maximum property owners to pay up their dues, the PMC will keep it’s tax collection centres open on June 30 though it is a Sunday.
PMC’s Chief Assessor and Collector of Tax Hemant Nikam said, “The payments of property tax by cheque or cash will be accepted at all citizens facilitation centres of PMC, kiosk machines and PMC headquarters between 10 am and 2 pm on Sunday.”
He warned that the citizens failing to pay the tax by June 30 will have to pay two per cent fine on the pending dues of the first half of the year. The PMC had announced concession for early birds who pay their property tax dues between April 1 and May 31, notwithstanding whether they receive the tax bills or not. As per the scheme those whose general tax for the current year was less than Rs 25,000 are to get 10% discount in general tax, those whose property tax is more than Rs 24,001 are to get 5% discount in the general tax.
Nikam said as many as 4,46,000 property owners paid tax to the tune of Rs 406.59 crore between April 1 and May 31 to avail benefit of the scheme.
