PUNE
The Cantonment police have arrested Khadki Cantonment Board (KCB) vice-president Manish Anand for allegedly threatening Chetan Mahadev Yadav, a resident of New Modikhana and younger brother of Vehicle Entry Tax (VET) contractor Vivek on Monday. Anand was later released on bail the same day.
Anand has been absconding for four months in connection with the murderous assault on Vivek, who along with two of his employees was attacked near KCB office gate when they went there to purchase tender forms to bid for a contract to collect toll.
The crime branch of Pune city police arrested 11 people in the case and filed a chargesheet last month. The HC had earlier granted bail to four absconding accused. Additional public prosecutor AA Mane opposed to Anand’s bail plea. “He is the person against whom the allegations of having fired shots from a revolver have been made,” he said.
However, on Friday, Justice AH Joshi ordered to release Anand if arrested on furnishing a personal bond and solvent surety of Rs1 lakh.
Anand has been directed to appear before the investigating officer (IO) on June 19, 20 and 21, from 5 pm to 6 pm and thereafter as and when called by the IO. Anand has to furnish his postal address, cellphone number, landline number and the name of a contact person for sending message and/or information in the event the IO requires.
