IP cameras bring in online remote parenting for working couples

Since most families have gone nuclear and there is no one to keep an eye on their property or children, parents are now taking the help of technology to do remote parenting.

These internet protocol CCTV cameras (IP cameras) can be used to prevent theft, vandalism and destruction of property by providing valuable video records of any motion that occurs. Surveillance security cameras can also assist in monitoring nannies, babysitters or children inside one’s home and deterring cases of child abuse, which in most cases is perpetrated by caregivers and nannies.

“In the past one year, we have witnessed a sharp increase in number of people putting up IP cameras in their homes and most of them are working couples. Security cameras help protectors keep an eye on their nurse and home workers. We installed cameras in more than 10 residences in a few months,” said Pradeep Gilbile of Growth-Well IT Solutions.

Reiterating the same, Somnath Sutar of Reliable enterprises said, “People from all walks of life are installing cameras in their homes to keep a check on their toddlers and even elderly parents.”

Mohammad Tabish of ICC network also agreed to the trend, “Almost every month, we are installing IP cameras in 6-8 homes. Parents can monitor every movement of their child. It provides them with the peace of mind.”

“My child is five years old and has a nanny to look after. Both me and my wife are working in IT sector, so last year, we thought of installing cameras in our home to keep an eye on activities. Moreover, it also helps me in getting to know my child better and the maid remains cautious not to do anything mischievous and abides by the orders too,” said Reena and Manish Joshi, residents of Pimple Saudagar.

“The recent cases of burglaries, house break-ins and child abuses were the reasons why we installed cameras in our homes. We have a small child who is accompanied by a maid, so the IP camera ensures that we are aware of what’s happening in our home. In case a thief came in, you can furnish evidence and show it to the authority,” said Praktan Gaikwad, a builder. His wife is an architect too. “Surveillance security cameras help deter people who may have thievery tendencies and have access to specific rooms in the house where valuables are stored,” he added.

A Baner resident, who runs a family business and is assisted by his wife, installed four IP cameras to keep a check on his daughter who is mentally retarded. “As my daughter cannot express herself, this camera will help us know if anyone misbehaves or sexually assaults her or try to take undue advantage of her situation,” said Virendra Athavale (name changed).

What is IP CCTV camera?
A growing branch in CCTV is internet protocol cameras (IP cameras). IP cameras use the Internet Protocol (IP) used by most Local Area Networks (LANs) to transmit video across data networks in digital form. IP can optionally be transmitted across the public internet, allowing users to view their camera(s) through any internet connection available through a computer or a 3G phone. For professional or public infrastructure security applications, IP video is restricted to within a private network or VPN.
