Inter-state gang busted in Pune, 10 kg gold recovered

The Pune police crime branch claimed to have recovered 10 kg of gold from members of an inter-state gang that had duped several people in the city over the last couple of years. The arrested accused include a woman. Additional commissioner of police (crime) SS Solunke said, “Investigations by crime branch have revealed that the three arrested people had defrauded four city jewellers of gold weighing 7.4 kg, total worth of which is around Rs2.20 crore. The gang members would offer attractive interest on gold deposited with them and steal the gold under the garb of checking its quality using a scanning machine. They had set up their unit at a rented office-cum-residence in Sangvi. The gang had done a vanishing act with the gold in June this year.”The police said that the gang formed three fictitious companies in a year in Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Pune. The arrested people include Sahil Mangalbhai Morzaria (27), Kisan Nagdas Gokani (37) and Zarine Ahmed Memon (27). Crime branch unit III has also arrested Ritesh Desai, a jeweller from Gujarat, who allegedly purchased the stolen gold from the arrested accused. According to the police, the three accused had rented a flat in Sangvi, where they started the office of a fictitious company called Future Vision Investment and posed as its directors.  Solunke added, “The team of crime branch officers led by inspector Sunil Pawar received information that the trio had been residing in Borivli in Mumbai and arrested them on Saturday.”
