The budget of the Pune Municipal Corporation for the fiscal 2013-14 could not be approved on Monday as the general body meeting was adjourned. The meeting will now be held on Thursday.Meanwhile, in the meeting, the opposition party corporators questioned the inflated budget of Rs4,167.50 crore proposed on Monday.While some named it an ‘Nationalist Congress party (NCP) budget’, some questioned the means of revenue to match the inflated budget. Standing committee chairman Baburao Chandere became the main target of the opposition party corporators. Many questioned Chandere, who represents NCP, for the hefty provisions in NCP constituencies of Kothrud, Karvenagar, Baner, Bavdhan and Balewadi.Many even alleged that such an inflated budget has been made with the upcoming assembly elections in mind.Many said that the budget is not comprehensive and focuses only on certain areas of development.However, the corporators welcomed the new schemes like ‘Lek Ladki’ to save girl child.
