Hailing the rains!

With the rain Gods pleased this year, bringing in abundant rainfall across the state, residents of Wakad-based Eden Tower Co-operative Housing Society have chosen the theme of Ganeshotsav on the same lines, as a mark of gratitude.

The entire process of celebration, starting from choosing the idol, decorating the pandal to the final immersion process, the residents, both children and elders alike, have followed eco-friendly ways to see that the festival is a success.

Speaking about the decoration, Charmi Thakkar, the brain behind the theme, said, “We have used eco-friendly materials like jute gunny bags, natural colours, bamboo, handmade paper art, along with sadu mati (river mud) idol painted with turmeric, astgandh and kumkum only.”

This is the sixth year when the society is celebrating the fest in an eco-friendly manner.

“Our motive is to inspire children through the eco-friendly methods. We also organised an idol-making workshop in this regard for children,” said Manisha Vijapuri, a resident.
She added, that over 200 members made idols out of sadu mati and immersed it in an in-house water container.

Cultural committee member of the society Ozal Nagose said that during the days of the fest, only traditional songs were played instead of the Hindi film songs.

In an effort to contribute to nature, the society members use CFL bulbs in their houses. They also are actively involved in vermi composting, rainwater harvesting and dry-wet garbage disposal system.
