Citizens showed their bad and good side on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway on Sunday. While nobody on the road stopped to help the two injured drivers of two trailers that met with an accident near Talegaon toll nala, a Bavdhan-based resident rushed the injured to hospital.
Vishnu Suryawanshi, a team leader with a reputed city-based automobile showroom, who helped the victims, said that the incident took place 79 km from Pune.
“I was returning home from Mumbai when I found these two injured persons pleading for help. Nobody came forward to help, including those who were managing the toll naka. Even the authorities at the private hospital where I rushed them in my car asked me to take them to
Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital (YCMH). It was only when I raised my voice did they gave them first aid before I admitted them to YCMH,” he said.
Vishnu said that both the drivers, who hail from Uttar Pradesh, are out of danger.
According to an expressway control officer, the accident took place around 7.05 pm near Talegaon toll naka.
A trailer heading from Pune to Mumbai lost control after an unidentified van brushed the heavy vehicle. The trailer hit the divider and landed in the opposite lane colliding head-on with an oncoming trailer. Vehicle movement was hit as both trailers blocked the traffic before cops towed away the accident vehicles to the side of the road.
Meanwhile, Pune rural police were busy discussing under the jurisdiction of which police station did the accident spot fall.
