Ganeshotsav 2012: 50 more PSIs to bolster strength of Pune cops

At a time when the Pune police need maximum manpower to control the crowd during the fest, the commissionerate has received a back up of 50 sub-inspectors to fill up the vacant positions in the city.

These newly recruited sub-inspectors have completed their training at the police training centre in Nashik. They will fill up the posts which have been sanctioned by the state home department but were lying vacant.

The new sub-inspectors will be allocated to four zones as per the vacancies. The large number of sub-inspectors would be allocated to the Zone - 1, as it has more vacancies than other zones.

Deputy commissioner of police (zone - I) Makrand Ranade said, “Newly allocated sub-inspectors will be posted at different police stations. It will be a relief in the present scenario, as we can use these officers during the fest.”

Considering the possibility of more terror attacks taking place in the city, the Pune police had sent the proposal demanding 10,000 new posts with the Pune police commissionerate, including positions of deputy commissioner police, assistant commissioner of police, police inspectors, assistant police inspector, police sub-inspector and police personnel. However, the state government dis not consider the proposal.
