Ganeshotsav 2012: 50 CCTV cameras to guard 19 spots in Pune

Taking cognizance of the recent serial blasts on Jungli Maharaj (JM) Road and the recent terror threats received by the police, the Pune traffic police has decided to install 50 CCTV cameras at 19 parking places during the Ganesh Festival in the city.

The decision of installing CCTV cameras at parking spaces was taken at a meeting where police commissioner Gulabrao Pol gave instructions to the traffic police. Immersion routes and traffic management were also discussed in the meeting.

The CCTV cameras will monitor the parking spaces identified by the police from September 23 to 29, the period during which police expect largest number of crowds.

A senior police inspector, along with three constables, will monitor the CCTV footage from these areas. On the day of immersion, the officers will work on rotation basis to monitor the system.

Speaking to DNA, deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Vishwas Pandhare said, “On the backdrop of recent terror attacks in the city, we have decided to monitor parking spaces under CCTV cameras. As a result, we conducted a survey in the internal areas of the city and decided on the places.”

“The CCTV cameras will be installed in the next five days and the monitoring will be carried out from 6 pm to 12 noon during the fest,” Pandhare added.
