Finally, parking spaces for PMPML buses identified

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has identified nine plots in the city to develop parking bays for the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) buses.

Municipal commissioner Mahesh Pathak had written a letter in this regard to MLC Mohan Joshi who has been following up the matter.

These places, identified by the PMC, include suburban areas like Pashan, Baner, Dhayari, Kondhwa Budruk, Hadapsar, Katraj and Kothrud. So far there are seven bus depots in the city. These bus depots are located at Katraj, Swargate, Hadapsar, Kothrud, Market Yard, Narveer Tanaji Wadi and Pune Station. Besides, there are around 10 major bus terminals across the city. But the lack of adequate parking spaces forces the transport authorities to use the already congested roads to park the PMPML buses. PMPML authorities have already started parking 70 of its buses on the amenity space offered by the civic body in Katraj.

“I had held a meeting with the civic officials on June 8 and raised this issue. Accordingly, the municipal commissioner is making the spaces available for parking purpose,” Joshi said.

Amenity spaces measuring four acres each will be developed in Pashan and Katraj. The space allocated at Kothrud measures two acres while the one in Kondhwa Budruk measures 1.5 acres.
