Diesel to cost Rs6.5 more in Pune

The Union cabinet committee’s decision to hike the price of diesel on Friday has hit Puneites as well. In the city, the price has been hiked by Rs6.5 per litre and the new rate came into force from Friday midnight.

Earlier, the price of diesel was Rs46.22 per litre. It will now be Rs52.28 for a litre. The hike is likely to hit the citizens hard as transportation charges of various goods and services might increase. Most of the transport vehicles run on diesel.

Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has already cleared the proposal of hiking bus fare by Re1 and the common man may also witness increase in prices of various commodities, including vegetables and construction materials.

Shashikant Dombe, secretary of Poona District Motor Goods Transport Association, said, “Just two months ago, there was a hike in diesel price. Now, the price has again gone up by Rs6.5. After the earlier hike, we did not increase the transportation charges, but we will have to increase it by 20% or face losses.”
