Against the backdrop of recent drowning incident at Shindewadi near Katraj new tunnel, the Pune divisional commissioner Prabhakar Deshmukh has instructed the collectors of all five districts to take immediate action against illegal constructions near national or state highways in their respective districts.
A car was swept away during flash floods on June 6, 2013 killing a mother and her one-and-half-year old daughter in Shindewadi. Following the incident, the district administration carried out a demolition drive against illegal structures in Katraj.
Deshmukh intend to take serious action against illegal structure around highways. He said, “I have instructed all the collectors from five districts including Pune, Kolhapur, Solapur, Satara and Sangli to take immediate action against all types of illegal construction around national or state highways.”
“I have also instructed them to take action against illegal structure on the hill top areas in their respective districts. The work will be jointly done by public works department, district administration and local administration.”
