Burglars cut window grill, enter bungalow when the family was busy shopping
In a shocking daylight robbery that took place on Sunday, cash and ornaments worth Rs14 lakh were stolen from the bungalow of a partner of a city-based construction firm in Market Yard area. The incident took place when the family was out for pre-Diwali shopping during the afternoon.
The thieves cut the grill of the kitchen window to enter the bungalow and stole gold, diamond jewellery and cash estimated at Rs14 lakh. The complainant, Umesh Ambardekar (46), lodged a complaint at Swargate police station on Sunday.
Ram Pathare, senior police inspector of Swargate police station said, “Ambardekar’s bungalow was burgled on Sunday between 1.15 pm and 2.30 pm in the family’s absence. Ambardekar and his wife had gone to Rasta Peth for pre-Diwali shopping after lunch. Their daughter had gone to her coaching class at the same time and the house was vacant.
Taking advantage of this situation, the burglars cut the grill and entered the bungalow from the kitchen window. They stole gold and diamond jewellery and Rs20,000 cash, totally amounting to Rs14 lakh.”
“On returning home, Ambardekar’s wife saw the kitchen window open and noticed that the grill was cut. They went to the bedroom on the first floor and found that all the money and jewelry in the safe was stolen. They lodged a first information report and investigation is on,” he said.
