PUNE
The Pune city crime branch has re-arrested an undertrial prisoner Akshay Ram Pacharne, who had run away with his handcuffs on while he was being taken to the Yerawada Central Jail on a PMPML bus on Sunday.
A team of crime branch Unit I sleuths, under the guidance of police inspector Sunil Patil, laid a trap near Gunjan Talkies in Yerawada after receiving a tip off that Pacharne would come there before leaving for Ahmednagar. They arrested him as soon as he walked into their trap.
Pacharne, 22, a resident of Pimpri was arrested in a burglary case in Baramati. He was produced before a court in Baramati, which remanded him in magisterial custody. Accordingly, assistant sub-inspector Subhash Waghmode and police naik AA Gaikwad of the Baramati police were taking Pacharne to Pune on a state transport bus on Sunday afternoon. They got down at the Hadapsar bus depot and took a PMPML bus to reach Yerawada jail. When the bus reached near Pune golf course, Pacharne pushed Waghmode aside and ran out of the bus from the rear door. The policemen chased him, but could not nab him.
Later, Waghnmode lodged a complaint in this regard with the Yerawada police. Police sub-inspector Amol Nandekar is investigating the case further.
