PUNE
The Pune police have requested the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to ban sale of meat, chicken and fish on the main route of the palkhis of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj in the city on July 1 and 2.
Speaking to media persons, deputy commissioner of police (special branch) MS Tambade said, “We have requested PMC to ban the sale of meat, chicken and fish on the main routes of both palkhis in the city. Both palkhis will stay for two days at Nivdung Vithoba Mandir and Palkhi Vithoba Mandir under the jurisdiction of Samartha police station.”
Besides, the warkaris will not be allowed to enter the old wada for security reasons. Tambade said, “The barricades will be placed at the old wada. So the warkaris would not stay or take shelter in it. Moreover, we have also written to Pune and Khadki cantonment boards that stray animals should not come on the palkhi routes.”
Volunteers will also be deployed at the designated points.
Check on quality of food
In a bid to avoid food poisoning during the palkhi processions, the Pune police have asked the Food & Drugs Administration department to check the quality of food in the city.
