The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) has announced Suhas Vibhate from IIT-Mumbai and Sayali Bhavale from College of Engineering, Pune (CoEP), as the winners of the Pune regional rounds of its India Scholarship Award - 2013, in the general and women’s categories respectively. Sayali and Suhas will now compete at the national finals to be held in Delhi in August 2013.

As many as 21 participants competed for the top spot in the Pune regional round, held at the College of Engineering Pune. The jury members judged the contestants on their presentation skills, leadership potential and technical content. Nagendra Chowdhary from Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication (DAIICT) and Himani Singhal from IIT - Mumbai came close to win the competition.

The first edition of the India Scholarship Award was kick-started earlier this year with an aim to support and encourage the engineering talent of the country. After three levels of online examinations, the candidates are shortlisted for the regional and final rounds thereafter. Candidates selected for the regional level are required to make a presentation on a pre-decided topic followed by a Q&A session with an expert jury panel.

Chairman of IET Pune Local Network, Madhuri Joshi, said, “The winners displayed excellent presentation skills combined with technical content. Such competitions are a step towards developing students to be at par to compete with their global counterparts.”  Shekhar Sanyal, director and country head, IET India said, “This attempt has helped the IET to inspire the young engineering students, especially women, to pursue engineering as a career.”
